The Dippy countdown is on!
It’s just a few months now until famous Dippy the Diplodocus from London’s Natural History Museum starts his nationwide tour at Dorset County Museum in Dorchester. Jon from OCEANROCKS has joined the ranks as a volunteer to help out with tours, school groups and crowd control. He’ll also be writing a guest blog as excitement grows towards the grand unveiling in February. Tickets to see Dippy are free but need to be booked in advance!
Jurassic Coast to star in Mary Anning feature film!
A new film starring Jenny Agutter is being made about the life of Lyme Regis’ Mary Anning, who made ground-breaking fossil discoveries along the Jurassic Coast in the 19th century. ‘Mary Anning and the Dinosaur Hunters’ could be released as early as next summer. It follows a long line of big and small screen productions which have showcased Dorset’s stunning coast and countryside.

Dorset fossil sells for monster 90K at auction: Found in Lyme Regis and 90% complete, the Plesiosaur fossil skeleton is such a rare specimen that the hammer went down at £92,280.
Marine conservation win: The Government has approved a new bye-law for areas along the Jurassic Coast. It gives added protection for sensitive marine conservation areas from the most damaging forms of activity like dredging and trawling.
A plastic problem: Stunning sculptures made from plastic washed up on the Jurassic Coast aim to highlight a very real problem.
Oil pollution fears: An energy company is seeking permission from the Government to drill for ‘Black Gold’ off the Jurassic Coast near Studland.
It’s a winner: Congratulations to the Jurassic Coast Trust Team for winning the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism at Dorset Tourism awards.
